
The Monitoring Committee of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme INTERREG VI-A “Greece-Bulgaria 2021-2027” approved to finance 21 projects of a total budget €36,5 million, under the 1st Call for Common Projects Proposals.
The decision was taken during the 4th meeting of the Committee, held on 27 January 2026 in Sofia, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Partnership Agreement of Greece, Ms Vasiliki Pantelopoulou, and the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria, Ms Yura Iordanova – Vitanova,
In total, 87 beneficiaries from Greece and Bulgaria will cooperate over the next two years, implementing joint actions aimed at strengthening resilience, sustainability, accessibility and social cohesion in the cross-border area of the Programme.
The actions will be implemented in the regions of Central Macedonia (Regional Units of Thessaloniki and Serres) and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Regional Units of Drama, Evros, Kavala-Thassos, Xanthi and Rodopi) on the Greek side and in the Regional Administrations of Blagoevgrad, Kardjali, Haskovo and Smolyan on the Bulgarian side, seeking to jointly address challenges, focusing on four specific objectives:
- Promoting the transition to a circular and efficient economy
- Enhancing, protecting and preserving nature and biodiversity, green infrastructure, including urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution
- Improving equal access, without exclusion, to quality education, training and lifelong learning services, through the development of accessible infrastructure, enhancing distance and online education and training.
- Strengthening the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation
