Strategic Project FloodGuard 2: Opening of the Joint Training Centre

The Lead Beneficiary of the FLOODGUARD 2 strategic project, the Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate General of the Ministry of the Interior of Bulgaria, announced the Official Opening of the Joint Training Center (JTC), which will take place on 29 September 2026, in the early afternoon, at the newly constructed and equipped Joint Training Centre in the Blagoevgrad Region, Bulgaria.

The detailed agenda will follow and is expected to include:

• Presentation of the main goals and activities of the FLOODGUARD 2 project
• Church blessing ceremony
• Greetings and addresses from participating organisations and officials
• Official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony
• Photo opportunities and media interactions
• Folk music and dance performance
• Guided review and presentation of the JTC facilities and functionalities
• Coffee break and networking

The FLOODGUARD 2 project builds on the achievements of the FLOODGUARD project implemented during the 2014-2020 programming period. Its main objective is to strengthen the capacity of first-response teams to effectively respond to floods, emergencies, and natural disasters in the Greece-Bulgaria cross-border region. The project achieves this through the provision of specialised equipment, the organisation of joint training activities and exercises, and actions aimed at enhancing public awareness and preparedness. A key project output is the construction and equipping of the Joint Training Centre (JTC) in the Blagoevgrad region, which will serve as a hub for cooperation, training, and capacity building, contributing to improved disaster risk management and greater resilience in the cross-border area.
