The COM-CIRCLE CBC project is a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering a circular and resource-efficient bioeconomy in the Greece–Bulgaria cross-border region. At the heart of the project is the establishment of the Competence/Reference Centre for Circular Bioeconomy, located at Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.) in Orestiada. This facility will serve as a hub for applied research, focusing on biomass valorisation, bioactive compound extraction, and industrial symbiosis. To ensure effective knowledge transfer and industry alignment, an Antenna Office in Komotini, hosted by the Regional Development Fund of East Macedonia and Thrace, will act as a liaison between research and market implementation. A Digital Platform Marketplace will be developed to facilitate cross-border industrial symbiosis, connecting researchers, SMEs, and public authorities for technology exchange and commercialisation.
