
The joint activities under the strategic project Floodguard 2: “Enhancing the capacity for prevention and response in case of floods and subsequent natural disasters and emergencies in the cross-border region”, funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg VI-A ‘Greece-Bulgaria 2021-2027’, proceed with the organization of the 1st meeting of the Joint Working Group, which will be held from March 10 to 12, 2026, in the city of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
The meeting aims to start the development of training materials and a program, which will be used for joint training of professional firefighters at the Training Centre in the region of Blagoevgrad, under construction through the project. This will contribute to achieving the main goal of the project – increasing the capacity of first responders to act in case of floods and subsequent disasters and emergencies in the cross-border region of Greece and Bulgaria.
The event will be held with the participation of 7 representatives of the Lead Partner (Directorate General Fire Safety and Civil Protection, Bulgaria, and Regional Directorates in Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kardjali and Haskovo) and 5 representatives of Partner 2, Hellenic Fire Corps, Special Disaster Response Unit.
The agenda provides joint discussions aimed at studying the bilateral experience in organising and conducting training for professionals in Bulgaria and Greece, visiting and learn about the training opportunities of the Training Centre, collecting and determining the suitable training topics, developing a draft of the training programme, and starting the process of developing drafts of the content of the training topics.
