The new Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg VI-A “Greece-Bulgaria 2021-2027” was approved by the European Commission on Tuesday, 13th of September 2022.
The Programme’s total budget amounts to 83.953.682,00 € and is co-funded by 80%, which equals to 67.162.945,00€, from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by 20%, which equals to 16.790.737,00 €, from national funds of Greece and Bulgaria.
The Programme’s eligible area covers seven (7) regional units in Greece: Evros, Xanthi, Rodopi, Drama, Kavala-Thassos, Thessaloniki and Serres and four (4) regions in Bulgaria: Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Smolyan and Kardzhali.
The Programme focus on three (3) main Priorities and the Programme’s budget distribution per Priority is as follows:
PRIORITY 1 – A more Resilient & Greener Greece- Bulgaria Cross Border Territory under Policy Objective 02 – A greener, low-carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy & resilient Europe by promoting clean & fair energy transition, green & blue investment, the circular economy, climate change mitigation & adaptation risk prevention & management, and sustainable urban mobility, with total budget: 35.372.208,75€ (ERDF: 28.297.767,00€ / National Funds: 7.074.441,75€)
PRIORITY 2 – A more accessible Greece- Bulgaria Cross Border Territory under Policy Objective 03 – A more connected Europe by enhancing mobility, with total budget: 31.081.472,50€ (ERDF: 24.865.178,00€ / National Funds: 6.216.294,50€)
PRIORITY 3 – A more Inclusive Greece- Bulgaria Cross Border Territory under Policy Objective 04 – A more social and inclusive Europe implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights, with total budget: 17.500.000,00€ (ERDF: 14.000.000,00€ / National Funds: 3.500.000,00€)
